Visiting a modern art museum may or may not be at the top of your to do list. Even if you are not the greatest fan of modern art, or do not fully understand it, you should still give the experience a try with an open mind. Even if you find some of the art to be quite ugly, the idea is to have that experience open your mind creatively.

One of the most famous and interesting modern art museums you could visit would probably be the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as the MET. This modern art museum dates back to 1866, when a group of Americans in Paris decided to create a national institution and gallery of art. Their intentions were to bring art and art education to the people of America.

The art museum became a reality for these Americans in 1938. This is when the Cloisters museum and gardens became open to the public in northern Manhattan. This branch was dedicated to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. Since this time, the MET New York has hosted thousands of famous galleries, paintings, sculptures, and educational seminars. If you find yourself in New York City, you would be remiss not to spend a few hours at the modern art museum.

If you are unable to visit the big apple, that does not mean you do not have access to great modern art museums. You would find great authenticity and perspective viewing the art at the art museum Milwaukee, the art museum St. Louis, the Cincinnati museum of art, or the Indiana museum of art. There are hundreds of fabulous modern art museums all over the country.

If you are an art enthusiast, looking for new creative inspiration, or simply bored with your regular activities, you should research the modern art museum nearest you. Again, you do not have to love or understand every piece of modern art, but with an open mind geared toward learning, you are sure to leave with a worthwhile experience.
